Community Spotlight #1

It's our pleasure to welcome each and every one of you to our very first Community Spotlight! This will be a regular happening that will focus in on an outstanding member or group in the Impostors community. And, it's our distinct pleasure to introduce you to a man that needs no introduction (to those that frequent our forums), Justin "Brash_Attack" McFarland. Justin took some time away from his busy double life to tell us a bit about himself, Gotham City Impostors, and why he's such an active part of our community!

So Justin, tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you like to do you in your spare time?
I'm a busy guy. I'm a full-time college student working towards a degree in Graphic Design. I work as a janitor at the dorms on campus so I'm able to work in between classes. When I'm not in class or working (and sometimes when I am) I'm typically playing games. I'm a console man, but that doesn't stop me from playing anything I can get my hands on. As if all this doesn't eat up all my time, I run and write for my gaming website, Save and Quit.

What first interested you in Gotham City Impostors?
I'm a huge DC comics fan. I've been reading comics since I was four, and even have The Flash tattooed on my right leg (I've been tempted to get a Professor Zoom tattoo on my right leg as well). When I heard that there will be a game that combines my love of Batman and FPS's I got excited. This past summer I was able to get my hands on it at E3. I was so pleased to see how good it was. I ended up playing it multiple times during the three-day weekend! It didn't hurt that the Joker girl egged me on to play more every time I walked by. (Tell her I said "hi." She won't remember me.)

You swung by our booth (and party) at PAX several times! What was it like checking out Gotham City Impostors in Seattle that weekend? Did you get to meet any of the developers?
I had to keep swinging by, I was determined to beat the devs and win one of those GCI Xboxes. After playing several of the devs at the party and creaming them every time, I was feeling rather confident. Something I didn't take into consideration was that there was an open bar at the party. Come time for the battle against the devs, my team and I were first in line and we got our asses handed to us. I talked a lot of trash and to make it even more embarrassing; you guys caught it all on tape. (Burn that tape.) The devs were always open to talk GCI with me and answer all my questions!

You've been pretty active on our forums! What attracted you to the Impostors community, and what makes it important to you?
From what I've played at expos and in the Beta, I can tell this is going to be a good game. I wanted to follow the game through its development and I thought the best way to do that is by signing up for the community. I enjoy being able to know things about the game first as well as talk to the people I plan on slaughtering once I can play the game with a controller.

Some folks may not know this, but you're a Very Important Impostor on our forums. (A very distinguished club, we might add!) How did you get there, and what tips do you have for other folks that want to fill those big shoes?
I just kept active. Since I was around a lot I was able to answer questions that have already been answered elsewhere by the devs and admins. I try to help out when I can. As for tips, love thy Impostor and eat your veggies. Also, if you want to be a VII, I wouldn't say anything that leads Rev.Blacky to take a drink.

Knowing what you know about Impostors right now, what are you most excited about?
Customization. I want to find the perfect combo of weapons and gadgets. Who knows, maybe I'll be a double sniper, glider guy? Maybe I'll be a jumbo rocket launcher fiend? Who knows? The only thing that matters is that I'll look good while doing it.

What's your favorite thing about Impostors at the moment?
I love the animation. The style is fantastic. I even have an Office Bat sticker on the back of my phone! One of my favorite things is something that most people probably haven't even noticed: Once you unlock a new weapon/gadget you get a quick animated how-to video explaining how to use your new toy (like the one featured in the Glider Rig's Origin Story video). They're rather short and most people will probably just skip through them, but I love them.

How are you looking forward to playing Impostors? With friends? Just rolling alone? With members of the community?
With games like this, it's important to have a good team, especially if you're playing an objective game mode like Fumigation. When I'm planning on doing some damage, I'll patrol the streets of Gotham with a pack of my friends but since few friends play games as often as I do, I will be getting dirty with randoms from time to time. I plan on doing a few GCI community playdates with the Save and Quit crew, so everyone can keep their eyes on our Facebook page to see when those are going to happen. (#shamelessself-promotion.)

There have even been members of the GCI community that I've getting to know pretty well and I wouldn't mind having them on my side. Especially if I plan on getting my revenge on the devs for that PAX ordeal!

How about it devs? Rematch?

Thanks for spending some time with us Justin. We appreciate it, and your willingness to put the Office Bat's honorable visage on your phone! And hey, if you're into Twitter, give Mr. McFarland a follow right here: @Brash_Attack.

Until next time, Impostors community, stay awesome! We're always keeping our eyes open for the next focus of our Community Spotlight. Who knows? It could be you! (And remember, it's not just limited to those that choose to frequent our forums. If you're out there being awesome, we will find you.)
