I disagree, they wrote the Riddler as more of a technical/mechanical villain, most of his challenges aren't fair matches of logic/wit but are trivial displays of Batman's gadgets, for example the chair challenge where a guard is locked into a chair and put into some strange cup game (choose the cup with the ball under it and win your prize), now normally Riddler would never use such a moronic gambling mechanic but in Arkham City he makes it worse, he cheats, I'm not saying that the Riddler has never cheated previously but he cheated in a completely trivial challenge...

It'd be like if Riddler challenged Batman to a puzzle match and then cut pieces to make them fit, not a normal puzzle, one of those huge piece puzzles with the image of kittens on it.
