HOW TO: CONNECT TO IRC

Introduction

So today I joined Gryn and Unicorn's IRC channel, I offered myself to make the IRC guide so that everyone can get a faster response if you encountered any problems or had any questions.

What is IRC?

Well IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and look at it like a huge Windows Live Messenger/AIM group without having to add anyone if you don't wish to

Easiest Way

You will need:
* A web browser

Step 1
Go to the WeAreImpostors' fansite chat

Step 2
Write your forum name & connect!

*Optional: If you wish to register your nickname (so it doesn't gets stolen by someone pretending to be you), simply, after entering the chat, visit the following link.

But how do I login/authenticate after I register? I see no "login" button inside the chat room!
Easy, every time you enter the chatroom, simply type the following:

/AUTH
Note: There is a space between the username and the password!

Kinda Easy Way

You will need:
* Ability to read & follow instructions (Obviously no? )
* An IRC client (I'm using X-Chat 2/Y-Chat which is a copy of X-Chat but it's free, you can download it here)

STEP 1

Download X-Chat 2/Y-Chat here.

STEP 2

Install the program after it downloads, and open it

Step 3

When you open it, it will ask for your User Information, type your name in and various name choices (this is because sometimes when you get disconnected your "nick" stays logged in and doesn't lets you use the same name for a couple of seconds)

Step 4

Click on the '+ Add' button

Step 5

Name it GCI / Gotham City Impostors / Whatever you like

Step 6

Click on the Edit button

Step 7

Where it says newserver/6667 select newserver and type irc.darenet.org
Note: If you did this correctly it will say irc.darenet.org/6667

Step 8

Check the connect to selected server only

Step 9

Check the auto connect to this network at startup

Step 10

Where it says "Favorite Channels" type #wai (yes, with the #)

Step 11

Close that window, and select the Server (the one in step 5) and click Connect

Step 12

That's it! You're now connected to the IRC channel
