i think there's a degree of competiveness (is that spelt right? seemd to go on forever when i was tyoing it, nearly had to have a coffee break) with as always 2 silly extremes, with most people being somewhere in the middle
of course its silly just to spin around and not try at all, but likewise its silly to treat GCI as some uber-competative sport. Both pproaches kinda ruin the fun not just for the player but for those in the same game.
I like to win, but my favourite games are the ones where no-one knows who's gonna win right till the fat lady sings, I'd rather lose a game like that than win easilly, whether its cos i'm facing n00bies in the game or whether its cos i maxamised a build/loadout in way that didn't reflect how i enjoy playing, but because i thought it would give me some kind of edge.
I think one thing we all need to remember tho, is that a lot people using a 'tryhard' build, are doing so cos they're not very good at shooters in general and tbf its no fun when you're just getting slaughtered all the time, it's one thing to be using a kooky build by choice cos you KNOW you can storm with your fave build when you want to, and its another to get totally ripped apart cos u just aint very good.
btw 'not being good' is not a criticism, its a plain fact that some are good, some aint, and again most are in the middle
I see myself as being in the middle and i'm quite happy with that, some will be in the middle and it will eat into their soul lol
