That is a double edged sword. Montage content can be pretty good in a lot of FPS or TPS type games. I agree that a well made montage can go a long way, but it isn't really the only content you wanna put out. Anyone can make a montage but a good one takes time. You don't get to learn much about your fans and can't really do much in the way of interact with them through a montage either. It is difficult to run your channel off of Montage content.
Making good Montage content often means that the youtuber needs a healthy amount of resources and knowledge about how to edit and an idea for each montage. A montage centric channel would be a little slower to upload then a commentary or variety channel. You can record a good match and talk about it or the game OR you can record 40 matches and take the best parts for a montage. Get what I'm saying?
People here may agree or disagree, it is really all about opinion, but the two best commentator youtubers to take notes from are;
- Totalhalibut - His variety channel is the best it could be. Regardless of content. He actually lives off Youtube, it is his job. He treats it as such.
-Day9 - This guy is an example of a person whose personality alone can pull you in. I didn't even LIKE Starcraft. I thought it was boring and had a skill ceiling higher then was worth learning. He not only drew me in, he showed me that right now Starcraft2 might actually be the only perfect E-sport title AND he taught me to play without actually having to explain things to me. I'd love to be able to have even a portion of that charisma.
These guys do it all the time. Constant videos. They make it work. They sit near the top of the mountain.
