You have to play defensively with the Marshal. You want to either be far way from your opponent, behind your opponent or both. So look to either flank your enemy or get a good sight line on them.

Know your escape routes - always be ready to run away if need be. When I am running away, I tend to fire my bombardier back towards where an enemy chasing me would be (Or you can switch the bombardier for a shotgun/smg and face the enemy head on when they get close)

Take your time - I find I start missing a lot of shots if I don't take my time, stay patient when lining up your shots
