I killed the dark knight at the top of a spiral staircase right after the red dragon and just before the Boar guarding the gate. Dark knight gave me his shield very happy with that shield!

I've already been invaded twice. It really sux when I can only do 28 dmg to someone with my most powerful spell. ..although now that I think about it I think he might have just been blocking.
I've never been that big on shields, I much prefer to kill the enemy before they can hit me, or just dodge enough so that they can't nail me.
    Do you have good moxy?

On the game lore, I actually had a theory that was directly proven correct by the game designer (they released a lore book not that long ago).

First run through the Ceaseless Discharge I had the the idea that he was protecting that corpse, he only attacks because you stole from the body, then I got the Orange Charred ring and the theory evolved, Ceaseless was the only son of the Witch of Izalith and when he was mutated by the flames of chaos his hand fell off his body (which became the Centipede Demon, it has a very hand shaped body to me and it drops the ring that mentions Ceaseless before he mutated, plus if you notice Ceaseless is missing an arm and from the stump of that arm is a mass of Centipede like legs, I theorize that the 'arm' split apart into the centipede limbs and his hand fell off, his other arm fused to his body (he likely clutched his chest/belly when the mutations started and it just melded)).

Turns out that I was right on the majority of it, Ceaseless is the only son of the Witch of Izalith and the Centipede Demon is his fallen hand.

that is actually a pretty good guess, much better than mine on that part haha
it helped out a lot for me tho having a friend tell me as much of the story as he knew while me and him played through the game together, i cant believe you didnt like the shield that much tho,, its pretty much your life line in that game unless you have the speed to avoid pretty much everything
